Let me tell you about Fables.
Fables is the story of exiled fairy tales, chased out of their home, the fabled lands where all legends, fairy tales, and folklores live, and forced to live in our dimension. They create Fabletown, a community in New York City for those of the fables that can more easily blend in, and the Farm, for those fables not as comfortable in the city or who can’t pass as human, with Bigby (a reformed Big Bad Wolf) as the sherrif, Snow White in charge of operations, and just about everyone you can think of popping up at some point or other.
The first arc, No More Happy Endings, which is linked below, takes the form of a murder mystery as a way of introduction, and is funny, slightly gritty, sexy, and well written as all hell, and just a joy to read.
I am also linking to the prequel, 1001 Nights of Snowfall, in which Snow White, as envoy to the Arabian fables, is landed in the role of Scheherazade, the storyteller of 1001 Arabian Nights, and through her stories, we are further introduced to some of the major players of the Fables world. 1001 Nights of Snowfall is also painted, instead of inked for most of the stories, resulting in some sheer gorgeousness.
Fables also has a few spin-offs. Jack of Fables follows Jack Horner through various shenanigans, and is super fun. Cinderella has two series: From Fabletown With Love, and its sequel series, Fables are Forever, in which Cinderella, who is a badass, is a covert agent for Fabletown.
Fables runs monthly, but is quickly collected into trades, which, unfortunately, got caught in Barnes and Noble’s bitch fit about some DC/Vertigo titles being digitally exclusive to the Kindle Fire. Fortunately, this means that Amazon is sort of ‘tee-hee you sore losers’ and have discounted the trades by at least 20% across the board (meaning almost everything is $10)
Volume 1 and 1001 Nights of Snowfall are in .cbr format and either need to be opened with a program such as Jomic or Comical (if you have a Mac, go with Jomic or FFView before Comical, imo), or changed to .rar and extracted to individual pages. All other links are to Amazon. for now

Comic retailers and collectors in the general St. Louis area should keep their eyes open for anyone selling Superman memorabilia and comics. A mentally disabled fan from Granite City, Illinois has been robbed of thousands of dollars worth of his personal collection.
